What is pet feed attractant
Food attractant is an additive to improve the palatability of pet feed and improve pet appetite. Simply put, it is something that can increase the pet's appetite. Different animals have different tastes. For example, most cats and dogs like to eat meat, so they should eat attractants with meat taste. Common food attractants in the market include pyrophosphate, sodium glutamate, meat flavor essence, flavoring agent, flavor additive, taste enhancer, pet compound seasoning, animal hydrolytic protein, flavor element, beer yeast, animal fat and animal liver.
Main raw materials of food attractants
Currently, the widely used preparation method of pet feed attractant is to take marine fish, animal liver, animal fat, yeast extract, etc. as the main materials, grind the raw materials, add appropriate amount of water for sterilization, and then add protease for enzymatic hydrolysis. After the enzymatic hydrolysis reaction, add amino acids and sugars for Maillard reaction, and spray drying to prepare pet feed attractant.
Among them, the enzymatic hydrolysis method can degrade part of the protein into polypeptide substances that are easily absorbed by pets. By controlling the Maillard reaction conditions, the attractant has a specific flavor, that is, the fresh, fishy and meat flavor that cats and dogs like. The final food attractant product has a strong natural meat flavor.

Natural food attractant
Strictly speaking, animal liver is also a kind of bait. If a cat food uses animal liver as a bait to increase pet palatability, does it mean that this cat food is not good? No! When a cat is in the wild, it eats an entire prey, including meat, viscera, bones and fur. If only cats eat meat, cats are prone to malnutrition.
At the top of the current feeding method - raw bone and meat feeding, it is also necessary to add animal viscera to supplement nutrition. Therefore, it is no problem to use animal viscera as bait in cat food. Animal viscera are generally called natural food attractants, as well as beer yeast. Yeast has a high concentration of glutamate content, which can produce fresh flavor and meat flavor, and can promote the appetite of cats and dogs. Generally, only 1% is added to cat (dog) food.

Unnatural food attractant
There are natural and unnatural food attractants, i.e. synthetic food attractants, such as meat flavor essence, flavoring agent, flavor additive, flavor enhancer and flavoring element, which belong to synthetic food attractants. This kind of food attractant is generally the amino acid after protein decomposition. When it is applied to any food, the cat smells like delicious meat, so it will eat it.
In addition to the food attractants mentioned above, there are two special food attractants.
One is hydrolyzed protein, that is, hydrolyzed chicken and hydrolyzed duck. Hydrolyzed protein can produce good food attractant effect, and is one of the most favorite food attractants for merchants. Soy sauce used by human is protein hydrolysate, which is the earliest application to improve the palatability of human food.
The second is prebiotics. It is generally written as mannan oligosaccharide in cat food additives. Prebiotics have good food inducing effect and other beneficial effects on cats.

Used bait
A small amount of these food attractants mentioned above will have no impact on cats. However, some unscrupulous merchants want to use inferior food as cat food, using rice and wheat as cat food, and adding a large amount of synthetic food attractants, so that cats mistakenly think that there is a lot of meat in this food, and then they love to eat it. Long term consumption of this kind of cat food is easy to cause malnutrition and pickiness of cats, which is also the reason why some cat food is called toxic food. Cats who eat these inferior cat food will generally find it difficult to change food. It is precisely because of these unscrupulous businessmen that most of the officials who shovel excrement hate the bait.
However, food attractants are not a scourge. Regardless of the dose, they are all hooligans. A cat food without food attractants is just like a dish cooked without any seasoning, which most people don't like. Similarly, most cats do not like to eat cat food without any bait.
We should not demonize the food attractant. It is not wrong in itself. What is wrong is the people who use it. It is true to look at the raw materials without marketing
